Biblically Centered Counseling Brochure;
BCC is a Private Practice in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania founded by Dr Don MacKenzie in May, 2006 offering to local Evangelical Churches a reasonable, alterative to the synthesized, medical counseling model to help hurting hearts.
Counseling includes but not is not limited to premarital, marriage, parental, and personal problems.
My background and training includes:
39 years married to Lydia Carpenter, college sweetheart who died several years ago of breast cancer. We had four sons.
12 years plus married to Carol Densmore, who was married to her college sweetheart, Mike, a pastor, who died of cancer at the age of 50. They had 3 children. And together Don and Carol in their blended family have 20 grand children and one great grand child.
Doc has four earned degrees: BA, BTh. MDiv, and DMin.
Certified level 11 with NANC [National Association of Nouthetic Association]
He earned one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at Delaware State Hospital, Wilmington, DE.
He is DISC certified for personalty profile evaluations.
He has served local churches for 28 years, first as a Youth pastor [3 years] then Senior Pastor in various churches for 25 years.
For fifteen years he served as the Executive Director of MACBA [Mid-Atlantic Conservative Baptist Assn.] counseling pastors and churches. After retiring he started BCC in 2006.
Basic Counseling Philosophy:
Biblical counseling is based on two Greek words: noutheteo or nouthesia and parakaleo or paraklesis. The first is directive and confrontational and the second stresses comforting, encouraging and supporting.
I like what Paul David Tripp states in Instruments in the Redeemers Hands [People in Need of Change and Helping People in Need of Change] on pages 99.
“Personal [counseling my addition] ministry is not just about confronting people with principles, theology or solutions. It confronts people with the God who is active and glorious in his grace and truth, and who has a rightful claim to our lives. Only as our hearts are transformed by his glory will the principles of Scripture make any sense to us.”
Therefore I will seek to minister in the power of the Holy Spirit and back up my clients with daily prayer. My approach is supportive of their church and pastor and I will give general progress reports of the persons they send.
I believe that God’s plan for the local church culture is that they are to be places where lay people can and should help/counsel other people toward spiritual maturity in Christ
